Under Locke MC Book Review

Holy Kristen Ashley, I enjoyed this book!
TO be fair, I have a love of all MC books; not to say that I love ALL MC books, I simply make a point to read as much of it as I can. It's always a risk when I click that purchase button and delve into the first few chapters. I'm always either completely riveted or painfully bored. Even through the boring, I always read to the very end. Thus my gleeful reaction to Under Locke because Thank Madeline Sheehan it was amazing!!!

This book was not the standard gritty and angst-driven MC plot I've grown to know and love. It built slower but at a good, steady pace and I thought that the relationship between our 2 main characters, Iris and Dex developed naturally and not at a lightning bolt speed which seems to be the norm these days.

Iris, our heroine, didn't bug the crap out of me which is always a plus. We find out early on that she moved across the country to start over with the help of her brother Sonny, who is a member of the local MC. She was really reserved at first but reading her inner turmoil, it was nice to see how she slowly brought out her personality. Iris is one of those people who are unintentionally funny, I cracked up quite a bit throughout the story. She's got a tough past and a rough hill to climb but she eases her way out with a lot of determination and doesn't spend the entire book whining about her effed up life. She was humbled by the help her older brother so readily gave her and was amazed at the loyalty she garnered from the new friends she makes in the town she begins to see as home. Her pull to Dex is strong and the chemistry is HOT! She fights for a little while but we all know how that goes.

Dex, our alpha hero, comes off as a real A-hole to Iris. He is the owner of the tattoo shop that Iris gets a job at courtesy of her brother- Dex and Sonny belong to the same club. He's a got a bad temper and has a tendency to lash out. The scene early on reminds me of the Tate/Lauren debacle when she overhears him calling her fat. Anyways, Iris overhears some unflattering comments and...THE DICK is born. Dex wasn't tough to like, he was quiet but you also saw pretty early on his protective and loyal side not only with Iris but with his employees and his brothers. He's torn at his attraction to Iris as well because it's a big no-no to go after his "brother's" sister. Fortunately for the readers, circumstances arise that force Iris to stay with Dex for safety and well...how long can two hot people live under the same roof before they start getting naked and nasty? It actually took longer than I would have liked but that's just because I'm impatient.

Supporting characters are also an integral part of what makes this book work so well. Sometimes it's difficult to show personalities with so many different people on the canvas but I felt like we got a good taste of them throughout and makes me hopeful that we'll get some more time with them with future releases.

As I stated before, this wasn't the typical MC book filled with violence and excess sex. There were many comical moments, mixed with some steamy Iris/Dex lovin', and of course there was some intrigue and drama. All in all, this was a highly entertaining read that had me swiping my iPad at an alarming rate. Go forth and click that purchase button, you won't regret it.
