BLAZE (STORM MC 2.5) REVIEW

3 1/2 STARS FOR J AND MADISON'S NOVELLA.
To make it perfectly clear, this rating pertains to this particular book and is not in any way an all-encompassing rating for the entire series.

This book centers around J and Madison. It takes place after the events of Storm (Storm MC Book 1) and runs parallel to Fierce (Storm MC Book 2)and we are treated to the cast of characters from the previous 2 books.

With timeline established, the prologue gives us a brief glimpse of how J and Madison came together. They had been friends for years but on Madison's 21st birthday, J decides that he's had enough of denying himself of what he's spent years craving.

"Jesus, you've got to know by now that I want you in my bed. I din't know how you felt; you've always given me mixed signals but now I can see that you want it too."
                                                                   - J
He also knows that Madison feels the same way.

"So, now that I'm yours, are you going to take me home and have your way with me?"
                                                                           - Madison

Their heat does jump at you fairly quickly. I'm not sure if this is due to the fact that we've seen their relationship build from the prior two books or because the writing demonstrates their chemistry- I suspect it's a good deal of both. Of course their road to coupledom doesn't exactly come without complications but we do see the official moment they become "J and Madison."

Fast forward to present day and J is fresh from his forced exile. He spent two months away at another chapter of the MC under orders from Marcus, the club President and Madison's father. J finds himself in somewhat an emotional crossroads. It turns out his time away from Brisbane was spent performing questionable duties. Duties which could have been prevented by Marcus but for selfish reasons, he led J directly into a destructive path. I can't delve into specifics without giving too much away but the events that occurred while J was on the road causes an internal battle that results in him pulling inadvertently away from Madison.

Madison instantly feels the rift. She notices that J is distant and that her normally touchy and affectionate man has become moody and hands off. She slowly allows doubt to seep in and continually struggles to keep her thoughts from drifting to the worst possible conclusions.
Amidst all their issues, Madison't father adds most of the tension in the story.

J and Nash continue to butt heads. We do read a little more of Blade and Madison's budding sibling love and I do feel a connection with Blade that I didn't necessarily feel previously. We are able to tie him to the Cole family a lot more and sense his relevance and role to the overall story arc.

I enjoyed Blaze quite a bit, however it did fall a little short of my expectations. ThoughI understood J's dilemma, it didn't serve as a high enough stake for me. It just seemed a little forced at times and I attribute this to the fact Nina Levine has created such a strong indestructible couple that the resolution at the end felt somewhat anti-climactic. Though, I suppose one can interpret this in a different manner and comment on how it was refreshing to read about a heroine not falling into the cliched overreactions and misunderstandings which have befallen so many other females before her. She stood by her man and took him for his word without hesitation. I do admit, it was kind of nice.
"We're getting our forever, J."

I like this series a lot and am looking forward to Blade and Nash's books.
