REVIEW- Renegade Lady (RENEGADE SONS MC #1)

Renegade Lady by Dawn Martens and Emily Minton

I can't describe how happy it makes me when I find a new series and an MC series to boot! Renegade Lady is the first book co-written by Dawn Martens and Emily Minton with book 2 being released later this month.

There's a little bit of everything in Renegade Lady, it starts off so dark, I found myself cringing after I read the first few lines.
"I stare at the ceiling while Timmons pounds into me. I bite down hard on my lip, so hard I can taste blood. He slams in one more time and grunts loudly into my ear rolling onto his side."
Jenna Chandler is a 16 year old girl caught in the horrific reality of rape, beatings, and degradation; reality thrust upon her by an unworthy and disgraceful father, the VP of Renegade Sons Mateland Charter. Life has nothing to offer Jenna- she has no home, no family, and no hope.

Hope for Jenna arrives in the form of a kind yet tough biker named Chipper who is a member of the Big Clifty Crew of the Renegade Sons. Having been sent by the original charter's president/father to investigate a missing shipment of drugs, Chipper is instantly disgusted by what he witnesses. Evidence of drug use and filth are strewn all over the clubhouse with no semblance of order in sight. But most horrifying to Chipper is witnessing two grown men violating a young girl who looks distressed and broken. He quickly jumps into action and takes Jenna away from her nightmare existence and offers her a chance to live in peace with him and his wife in Big Clifty.

Jenna's life takes a drastic turn for the better as she soon assimilates to her new surroundings. For the first time in her life, she feels safe and loved. Jenna finally feels as if she belongs. During this time, she spends a lot of time with Chipper's younger brother, Kidd. They have an age difference, so with as much as Jenna longs to be with him, Kidd sees her as a little sister, always referring to her as his, "baby doll." Though his relationship with Jenna is friendly at the moment, Kidd acknowledges a magnetic pull towards the 16 year old girl whom Chipper begins treating as a daughter. Soon enough, Kidd starts to picture Jenna as a little more than a child and doesn't oppose an extended trip back to Mateland to oversee more of that charter's business in hopes distance will fix his unnatural attraction to the underage girl.

Some time passes and circumstances brings Kidd back to Big Clifty where an older and much more developed Jenna greets him happily. Jenna's happiness is short-lived however as Kidd brings with him a beautiful woman who instantly ingrains herself in his life. She is not too fond of Jenna either as she sees the obvious connection between the two. Kidd still tries to keep some distance, though only until her 18th birthday when he plans to claim Jenna as his old lady.

When the time finally arrives, Kidd doesn't waste any time and the two share a very steamy, 2 years-in-the-making encounter. Though confused, Jenna is extremely happy at the turn of events but a phone call interrupts any post-coital bliss and Kidd quickly retreats to handle the mysterious call. When Jenna tires of waiting, she seeks him out and is shocked and dismayed by a cruel and explosive outburst directed at her by Kidd. This is a turning point in their relationship which both Jenna and Kidd realize may very well have destroyed any chance of a happy life together.

Time passes and Jenna makes some decisions regarding her life which greatly displeases Chipper and angers Kidd. She grows to be a tougher and colder Jenna, earning her the nickname, "Ice."  She is no longer the sweet and starry-eyed teenager, becoming a cold and sensual woman. Kidd and Ice settle into an uncomfortable co-existence where Kidd is constantly upset at Ice's behavior and she quite effectively treats him with a quiet disdain. Still, Kidd vows to find a way to earn her forgiveness and finally claim Jenna as his.

"Ice" Cold Jenna

After finishing Renegade Lady, I instantly put it into my re-read circulation. I thoroughly enjoyed Ice and Kidd, though to be perfectly honest, Jenna shared some fantastic chemistry with other characters- I wasn't firmly on Team Kidd for much of the book. But I give credit to the authors who wrote a beautiful character who displayed such an epic evolution between the first and last page. Jenna was easily lovable and definitely goes down as one of my favorite MC heroines. Her struggles and experiences were what drew me completely and firmly to Renegade Lady. I couldn't put my e-reader down, reading easily through the night in order to see what happens to the enigmatic Jenna "Ice" Chandler and I was very satisfied at the conclusion.

Though there were some dark parts to the story, there was also a healthy dose of humor and sexy indiscretions. Dawn Martens and Emily Minton certainly wrote a great deal of hot and steamy scenes which, let's face it, is essential in a biker romance. They also created a cast of characters who make me eager to read forward in the series. My only complaint was that this book couldn't go on forever and that I have to wait for the next in the series. This is a must read if you enjoy your MC romances and I can't wait to see what else Dawn and Emily come up with in the series.

***I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.***
