Five Stars for Devil's Game by Joanna Wylde!
I'm not sure if I will ever be able to articulate how much I enjoyed Devil's Game. I loved everything about this third book in the Reaper's MC Series. Joanna Wylde is absofreakingfabulous! I bow down to her mc-minded genius. I love the world she has so very wonderfully created and I can't get enough. Where do I begin?
Emmy Hayes, the princess of the Reaper's MC has been coddled and sheltered her entire life. Her father, Picnic, the Reaper President is extremely overprotective which could be the understatement of the century. The man escorted her to her first day of high school with about a dozen brothers in tow...mortifying! But unfortunately for this lady with the daddy issues- Picnic became even more intriguing and sextacular. More on him later.
Liam or Hunter is the enforcer of the Devil's Jacks, longtime rival to the Reapers. He's spent years hating the Reapers partially credited to his gratitude to their VP, Burke, who had helped him and his foster sister out in a huge way. Some things are set in motion and Liam is tasked with getting close to the princess of the Reapers, a task Liam eagerly accepts as soon as he first lays eyes on Em.
At first, the matchup bothered me a bit. Em had always crushed on Painter from her dad's club and then wham!!! Reaper's Legacy happened and she was interested in Liam, even when it became clear he was just a big, dumb user and a liar. He was a douchebag and scumbag in my book. He was a douchscumbag!!! And then I read DG and it all became clear...Painter was a big p*ssy.
Painter was definitely not good enough for our princess. Enter Liam and all his hotness. The dude seriously had an issue with putting his foot in his mouth. Seriously man, think and then speak- I'm pretty sure we learned this in kindergarten. But in some ways, this just added to his hotness. He was like a supermodel with tattoos. He was tough and he knew what he wanted. He also didn't give a damn who he had to plow through to get Em. Respect. Of course, this did create some tension with both clubs. Romeo and Juliet. Hatfields and the McCoys. Emmy Lou Hayes and Liam Hunter...it wasn't looking good.
Em was the absolute best! Damn she was feisty while still managing to be all princess-like and vulnerable. She had that impossible mixture of sexpot and innocent girl next door. She was a little goofy and there's something seriously attractive about a beautiful woman who can be a little goofy but maybe I'm just projecting my hopes that men find that attractive. Who knows?
Liam or Hunter was one badass alpha male. He wanted Em and he took her. Not in a bad way, of course because this would make the book a completely different type of novel and that's not what we have here. Everything was totally consensual; I was speaking of taking her with no regard to his club or Picnic. Oddly enough, this trait is what Picnic had hoped Em would find and he surprisingly informed her that he didn't want her with Painter because of the fact he didn't have the gonads to go after her and stand up to him. SHOCKER! I actually was shocked at this revelation but I shouldn't have been. Picnic is sexy. I know some may think, "huh, what does that have to do with being sexy?" Everything Picnic does is sexy...daddy issues!!!
Great story. Great characters. Great development. Great everything. The setup for Reaper's Stand is even great.
Now, let's talk about Picnic. I know DG was about Em an Liam but I don't care. Picnic is one lonely and horny man. He's only 42. I'm 34, seems like we'd be a great fit, right? Okay, I may have lost track of what I was trying to say here...
Devil's Game. Amazing. You'd be a big ole fool not to one click this bad boy. It's probably the best book I've read thus far in 2014 and I've read an average of a book a day. Don't ask me to calculate that, I'm an english major and I'm crap at math. But a picture should have been painted very clearly. There's action, intrigue, suspense, drama, and really amazing and hawt chemsitry between Liam and Em. For a virgin, she sure did get real good at the whole intercourse thing.
Joanna Wylde, I love you. If I didn't think my husband would sock me in the mouth, I'd name my next child Reaper or Horse or Ruger or Liam. He actually might like Liam. But you get what I'm trying to say. I can't wait for Reaper's Stand, so if you feel like being my new bestie, please go ahead and send that my way. Have I mentioned how much I love you?
